PONANT extends CYCA partnership

PONANT, Yacht Cruises and Expeditions has extended its support of international sailing, backing the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) and the PONANT Sydney Noumea Yacht Race for a further two years.

PONANT joined the CYCA family as naming-rights Partner for the 2018 PONANT Sydney Noumea Yacht Race – and they are now sponsors of the CYCA and the event until 2020.

“Following the relaunch and success of the 2018 Sydney Noumea Yacht Race, PONANT has confirmed its commitment to naming-rights Partner of this race for the next two years,” Sarina Bratton AM, Chairman PONANT Asia Pacific, says.

“We feel a positive synergy with the CYCA, as yachting is part of our DNA and 30-year heritage. Le Ponant, our classic three-masted sailing yacht, is the company’s first vessel and she embodies the traditions maintained within our company’s ethos.”

“We see this as the perfect link between Partner and event. Of course, being a French company, the race ending in New Caledonia adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the appeal.” Commodore Paul Billingham is excited about the partnership extension and what the future holds. “The PONANT Sydney Noumea Yacht Race is one of the CYCA’s truly great events – and it’s excellent to see the extension of the great partnership with PONANT,” Billingham says.

“PONANT, famous for small-ship cruises and luxury expeditions, are renowned for being of high quality and top class – the fit couldn’t be any better!

“On behalf of the Board and Members, thanks to PONANT for the support.”

Monique Ponfoort, Vice President PONANT, Asia Pacific: “The Sydney Noumea race is an exciting event for serious competitors, sailing through a range of challenging navigation and sea conditions for 1,064 nautical miles. Following our involvement last year, and working together, we appreciate even more the benefits both organisations receive through the common goal of optimising our partnership.

“While the classic three-mast yacht, Le Ponant, represents and maintains the close ties that the Founder and CEO, Jean-Emmanuel Sauvée continues to have with sailing, this culture is reflected throughout our fleet of modern luxury expedition ships as well.”

As part of the PONANT partnership, Members will be provided with a number of exclusive opportunities and offers, ahead of the 2020 PONANT Sydney Noumea Yacht Race.

CYCA CEO Eddie Moore and Sports Marketing and ponsorship Manager Nicholas Janzen recently welcomed PONANT’s Le Laperouse into Sydney, with the luxurious small ship headed to Tasmania in December for the historic 2019 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race among myriad other journeys.
